Step 1: Open the Finder

To begin, open the Finder on your Mac. You can do this by clicking on the blue smiling face icon in your dock or by pressing Command + Spacebar and typing “Finder” into the spotlight search.

Step 2: Access the Airdrop Window

Once you have the Finder open, look at the left-hand sidebar and locate “Airdrop.” You can also access it by pressing Command + Shift + R. Click on “Airdrop” to open the Airdrop window.

TIP:

If you don’t see “Airdrop” in your sidebar, don’t worry! It may be hidden.

Simply go to “Finder” in the menu bar at the top of your screen, select “Preferences,” click on “Sidebar,” and checkmark “Airdrop. “

Step 3: Adjust Airdrop Settings

Before you can start using Airdrop, make sure your settings are properly configured. To do this:

  • Enable Wi-Fi: Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on both your Mac and the device(s) you want to share files with.
  • Choose Who Can Send You Files: In the Airdrop window, select either “Contacts Only” or “Everyone” depending on your preferences. “Contacts Only” restricts Airdrop access to people in your Contacts app.

Step 4: Activate Airdrop

Now that your settings are in order, you’re ready to activate Airdrop! Here’s how:

  • Click on Airdrop Icon: In the Airdrop window, click on the blue and white icon located at the center. This will activate Airdrop and make your Mac discoverable to nearby devices.
  • Set Your Visibility: You can choose to be visible to “Contacts Only” or “Everyone” temporarily by clicking on the text next to the icon and selecting your preference.

Step 5: Start Sharing!

Congratulations! You’ve successfully activated Airdrop on your Mac.

Now it’s time to start sharing files with other Apple devices. Here’s how:

  • Select Files: Find the file(s) you want to share and select them by clicking and dragging or using Command + Click for multiple files.
  • Share with Devices: With the file(s) selected, drag them onto a device listed in the Airdrop window, or right-click on them and choose “Share > AirDrop” from the context menu.

You’ll see a progress bar as your files are transferred. Once complete, you can access them on the receiving device.

Airdrop is undoubtedly a powerful tool for seamless file sharing between Apple devices. By following these simple steps, you can easily activate Airdrop on your Mac and enjoy hassle-free transfers. So go ahead, activate Airdrop today and experience a whole new level of convenience!
